Bathroom renovation Amsterdam

The quality of a bathroom starts behind the tiles

Plumbing, drainage, waterproofing, ventilation, electrical work and surface preparation must be planned before the visible finish is installed.

A bathroom is a small room with many technical dependencies. Moving a shower changes drainage. A wall-mounted toilet needs the right frame and depth. Large tiles require flat surfaces. Mechanical ventilation, electrical zones and waterproofing cannot be improvised after the products arrive.

Details meet at every edge

Drain position, falls, waterproof corners, tile layout and sanitary dimensions all influence the final result.

What should be decided before demolition?

  • Final sanitary layout and exact product dimensions
  • Drainage route and available floor height
  • Hot and cold water positions
  • Ventilation route and capacity
  • Lighting, switches, sockets and electrical zones
  • Tile sizes, niches, thresholds and transitions to adjacent rooms

Changing the layout

A new layout can improve comfort, but not every position is equally practical. Drainage needs sufficient space and fall, especially in apartments. Pipe routes may be limited by structural floors or neighbours below. An early technical check helps separate attractive ideas from solutions that are reliable to build.

Waterproofing and surfaces

Tiles are not the waterproof layer. Wet areas need a suitable substrate, sealed transitions and correctly detailed penetrations. Walls and floors also need to be flat enough for the selected tile format. Large tiles, a linear drain or a flush shower floor make preparation and setting-out especially important.

Amsterdam apartment considerations

Shared access, waste removal, working hours and temporary water interruptions can affect neighbours and the VvE. If pipework or ventilation passes through common or structural parts, approval may be needed. These conditions should be checked before materials and labour are scheduled.

When this project is a good fit

Bathroom renovation is a good fit for De Bouw Baron when the work is substantial or connected to a wider renovation, such as new walls, floor preparation, kitchen plumbing, electrical upgrades or renovation of several rooms. For a single small repair, a specialist service company is usually faster.

Frequently asked questions

Can I buy sanitary products myself?

Often yes, provided exact dimensions, delivery dates, installation requirements and responsibilities are agreed before ordering.

Can the layout always be changed?

No. Drainage, structural floor, pipe routes, ventilation and available height determine what is practical.

What should I send for a first check?

Photos, approximate dimensions, desired layout, product information and details of other renovation work.
